WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN

We are visionaries, in favour of water sensitive design for the future of our towns and cities. We believe in innovative, creative solutions for better water conservation, flood prevention and cleaner environments. H20 WEM advises on water efficiency measures, such as green roofs and water harvesting and recycling systems and associated infrastructure changes (sustainable urban drainage systems and integrated water management). We recognise that rather than having waste water run away, it makes sense to store and re-use it; to flush our toilets, for example, or wash our cars. We believe it is ridiculous to treat all water until it is as pure as drinking water – only to go and flush our toilets with it. It is extremely expensive to create clean water. By capturing rainfall using green roof systems, sustainable drainage and below-ground storage, we can reduce our dependence on underground water supply pipes; local water capture reduces the need for pumping water over long distances creating huge carbon savings, increases greenery in urban areas creating a better micro climate (and better air quality), cheaper water and happier people. It’s a win win! A changing environment and weather pattern necessitates a visionary approach to urban design, particularly with regards flood prevention. H20 WEM has the knowledge and experience to help adapt infrastructure around buildings to cope with more intense and spasmodic rainfall. We can also advise on relevant legislation, resolving disputes and enabling water sensitive urban design to take place. We have a vision of how our towns and cities could look – and should look – in the future. We help create sustainable, water efficient communities. It’s about making the ground behave in the way it did before we ever built on it...
